Hung Cao, the acting Secretary of the Navy, announced the U.S. Department of the Navy awarded a contract to Raytheon to accelerate the production of the Tomahawk missile.

The $22.9 billion contract is designed to speed up procurement by providing a more stable and predictable acquisition approach, officials said. The contract is for seven years, and follows the landmark agreement between Raytheon, RTX’s parent company, and the U.S. DoW ramping up production to more than 1,000 Tomahawk missiles and associated support.

“This landmark $22.9 billion investment accelerates the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to our warfighters at unprecedented speed,” Cao said. “By working closely with industry to expand the capacity of our munitions industrial base, the Department is utilizing every available tool to meet the demands of current operations, guaranteeing our naval and joint forces have the lethal firepower they need to deter aggression and protect the homeland.”

Raytheon said RX has invested heavily in recent years to ramp up production of Tomahawk and other critical munitions, and has delivered three times more Tomahawks in the first half of 2026 than it did in 2025. The new contract will allow RTX to increase capacity and collaborate closely with hundreds of small and mid-sized suppliers across the country to rapidly scale output to meet long-term needs.

“Tomahawk is the Navy’s most important strike weapon, able to target hostile forces hundreds of miles away without ever risking the lives of our sailors,” Raytheon President Phil Jasper said. “We are making significant investments in our workforce, technology, supply chain and facilities to dramatically boost production capacity and meet surging demand.”

By providing the defense industry with greater stability and predictability, this investment enables expanded workforce capacity, increased manufacturing throughput, and stronger supply chains, officials said. The long-term contact reinforces the DoW’s commitment to rebuilding the defense industrial base and ensuring Navy and Marine Corps forces remain equipped with the advanced weapons required to maintain maritime superiority, Cao said.
