First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) officials are espousing the benefits of efforts resulting in bolstered connectivity capacity for Oklahoma first responders and the communities they serve.
FirstNet, which AT&T built nationwide, is a high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for the nation’s first responders and extended public safety community. It now covers the entire state, helping to connect public safety agencies and organizations in more than 210 communities across Oklahoma.
“FirstNet is a dedicated broadband platform for public safety, by public safety,” FirstNet Authority Acting CEO Lisa Casias said. “We worked hand-in-hand with the Oklahoma public safety community to understand their needs for the network. And this new infrastructure is a prime example of how that input and feedback is becoming reality. We look forward to supporting Oklahoma first responders’ use of FirstNet to help them save lives and protect our communities.”
Deploying Band 14 spectrum, the nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the federal government specifically for FirstNet, has empowered 1,000 sites with Band 14 capability statewide to provide public safety with dedicated coverage and capacity.
“Keeping our first responders connected and Oklahomans protected during emergencies is a priority and mission for FirstNet, Built with AT&T,” AT&T Oklahoma President Steve Hahn said. “Our year-after-year network expansion in the state is a testament to our support for a dedicated platform that first responders can access 24/7.”
