Washington, D.C.,-based The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), a nonpartisan research institute focusing on national security and foreign policy, recently named former Rep. James Langevin (D-RI) as chairman of the Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation (CCTI).

CCTI works to advance U.S. prosperity and security through technology innovation and to counter threats to the U.S. government, private sector and allied countries.

“For more than two decades, Jim has been bringing attention to the most complex, emerging threats facing U.S. national security,” said Jonathan Schanzer, executive director of FDD. “His vision, leadership, and dedication to solving hard problems echo FDD’s own commitment to pairing thoughtful research and analysis with concrete policy ideas.”

Langevin was elected to Congress in 2000 and served for 22 years. He was a House Committee on Armed Services senior member, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee chairman, a House Committee on Homeland Security senior member, and served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

He also helped create the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, founded the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus, and wrote the National Cyber Director Act that created a Senate-confirmed National Cyber Director at the White House.

Langevin also served on the congressionally mandated Cyberspace Solarium Commission.
