The U.S. Army’s proposed $253 billion fiscal year 2027 budget includes increases for operations, procurement, research and personnel.
The budget proposal includes a 28.7 percent discretionary increase in procurement funding. This includes a $3.1 billion request to modernize the Army’s government-owned organic industrial base sites.
The proposal includes a 12.9 percent increase to the research and development discretionary budget. Funding would be used for counter-small unmanned aircraft systems, the M1E3 Abrams tank, the MV-75 Cheyenne tilt rotor aircraft, and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.
The proposal also includes a 5.3 percent increase in military personnel funding. The increase would be used to give service members a 5 percent to 7 percent pay raise and grow the number of active and reserve soldiers.
“This budget reflects the Army’s steadfast commitment to ensuring it remains the world’s most capable and ready land force,” Maj. Gen. Rebecca McElwain, Army Budget director, said. “This budget was forged to meet the challenges of a complex global security environment all while honoring our commitment to our people and the American taxpayer. Every dollar in this request is deliberately allocated to create a more lethal, modern, and resilient force.”
Army officials emphasized fiscal responsibility and accountability in their proposal.
