U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry between San Diego and Mexico recently seized nearly $2.8 million in fentanyl and methamphetamine during two seizures in April.

“Smugglers use complex techniques to conceal dangerous narcotics like fentanyl and methamphetamine,” San Ysidro Port Director Mariza Marin said. “I am proud of the unwavering dedication of our CBP officers, supported by our canine teams and advanced inspection technology,” Marin continued. “Their efforts directly prevent these deadly narcotics from reaching our streets and protecting countless lives.”

Officers inspected a 2025 Toyota Corolla on April 13 that was driven by a Mexican citizen enrolled in the Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection program. The inspection revealed six packages of white fentanyl powder weighing 14.02 pounds and with an estimated street value of $764,727 concealed in the panels. The driver was arrested and officers seized the narcotics, the vehicle and a cell phone.

Officers inspected a 2019 Honda Pilot driven by a Mexican citizen on April 19. The inspection revealed 94 packages concealed in the roof containing approximately 35 pounds of fentanyl powder with an estimated street value of nearly $1.95 million and more than 80 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated value of $80,550.
