Operation Viper, a high-intensity fugitive apprehension initiative in Arkansas, resulted in 39 arrests and the seizure of 33 firearms, approximately 100 pounds of marijuana, $74,400 in illegal proceeds, and large quantities of fentanyl and other illicit pills.
The initiative involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Little Rock Field Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) New Orleans Field Division and federal, state, and local law enforcement partners.
“The success of Operation Viper reflects the unwavering commitment of the FBI and our strong partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies throughout Arkansas,” Jason Van Goor, FBI Little Rock Field Office special agent in charge, said. “Violent crime will not be tolerated in our state, and we will continue to aggressively target and hold accountable those who endanger our communities.”
The 39 people arrested face several federal charges including felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machinegun, and possession with intent to deliver marijuana. A federal grand jury indicted nine people for federal firearms violations on June 2.
Other agencies involved include the Arkansas State Police, three local police departments, two sheriff’s offices, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
