U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized 1,100.79 pounds of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $10.1 million.
The seizure occurred on June 15 at the World Trade Bridge between Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. A CBP officer referred to a 2013 D-13 Volvo hauling a shipment listed as “polypropylene” for secondary inspection that included a canine and a nonintrusive inspection system examination. Officers discovered the suspected methamphetamine within the vehicle and seized the narcotics.
“This major interception reflects the steadfast dedication of CBP officers to protecting our communities from harmful drugs,” Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry port director, said. “The professionalism and thorough efforts of our officers are essential to our mission, and this achievement showcases the exceptional work carried out daily in the cargo environment.”
CBP Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the case.
CBP also recently announced it reached its highest staffing level in its 102-year history in the spring. The agency has 21,471 border patrol agents on duty.
“Surpassing 21,000 agents is a milestone, but we aren’t stopping here and are committed to growing our workforce and providing the tools and resources needed for CBP’s mission,” Andrea Bright CBP Office of Human Resources Management assistant commissioner, said.
