FEMA opens application period for seven grant programs

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opened the application period on Wednesday for seven preparedness grant programs. The agency will award more than $1.5 billion, and the application period will close on July 24.

The grant programs are:

More than $1 billion will be available through the Homeland Security Grant Program. The program allows state, territorial, tribal nations and local governments to prevent, protect against and respond to acts of terrorism. It comprises three separate grant programs.

A total of $300 million will be available through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to houses of worship, community centers and other nonprofit organizations to protect against acts of terrorism and targeted violence.

A total of $95 million will be available through the Port Security Grant Program to protect port infrastructure from acts of terrorism and cyberattacks.

More than $88 million will be available through the Transit Security Grant Program to protect transportation infrastructure such as city bus systems, ferries and passenger rail.

More than $14 million will be available through the Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program to prevent, protect against and respond to acts of terrorism.

A total of $9.5 million will be available to Amtrak through the Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program.

A total of $1.9 million will be available through the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program.
