The government-led critical design review of Northrop Grumman’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye’s Block II upgrade was recently completed, allowing the aerospace and defense technology company to immediately begin Block II integration and testing.
The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is an airborne early warning command and control platform that is continuously modernized to stay ahead of threats. The Block II Upgrade is a comprehensive overhaul of mission system software and hardware. Block II reduces costs and supports long-term fleet sustainment and modernization by using a modular open systems approach and commercial off-the-shelf products.
The Block II is the most significant upgrade since E-2D was developed. It dramatically improves situational awareness and crew efficiency while future-proofing the platform against evolving threats.
“Completing the Block II critical design review reflects the dedication and expertise of our team and partners. This upgrade strengthens the E-2D’s suite of capabilities, enhancing situational awareness, reducing crew workload and paving the way for future technology,” Janice Zilch, Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye vice president and program manager, said. “We are continuing to deliver unmatched capability at speed to the U.S. Navy and our international partners.”
The company will integrate the upgrade into the E-2D’s active production line for new aircraft and retrofit existing fleet aircraft.
