TSA commends Denver Regional Transportation District for high security standards

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) commended the Denver Regional Transportation District (DRTD) on Monday for its dedication to building a strong security program while earning the TSA’s highest rating of “gold standard” for its 2015 baseline assessments.

“I congratulate the Denver Regional Transportation District for their strong commitment and the hard work essential to this level of achievement, and I commend them for their continued dedication to ensuring the safety and security of travelers in and around Denver,” TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger said.

The DRTD’s BASE Program was developed to strengthen domain awareness and protection capabilities, while enhancing prevention and response preparedness of transit systems. The BASE Program is designed to meet the requirements in the 9/11 Commission Act’s security assessment section, which instructs the TSA to identify critical assets and their vulnerabilities.

“We are honored that TSA has recognized our Transit Police and security force’s efforts with their highest rating,” Denver Regional Transportation District General Manager and CEO Dave Genova said. “Safety and security is Denver Regional Transportation District’s top priority and we will continue to run a robust transit security program to keep our passengers and the community safe.”
