Eight of America’s leading communications companies announced the establishment of a cybersecurity non-profit.
The Communications Cybersecurity Information Sharing and Analysis Center, also known as C2 ISAC, is a collaboration of AT&T, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Lumen Technologies, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Zayo, and will work to strengthen cybersecurity across the communications sector.
As cyber threats have grown more sophisticated and complex, and continue to evolve through the use of Artificial Intelligence, C2 ISAC will work to build on the decades of collaboration with the National Coordinating Center for Communications to reassess and strengthen the industry’s frameworks for faster and more actionable information sharing, the companies said.
The companies said their industry recognizes the need for robust, unified defenses in the face of cyber threats, but they said they also know no one company has full visibility into every threat or can address every risk alone. By sharing resources, expertise and intelligence, the group hopes to anticipate, identify and respond to cyber threats quicker and more effectively.
The group said it would have an initial Board of Directors that would be made up of the chief information officers of each company. Valerie Moon, whose past includes leadership at CISA, the FBI, and other cyber organizations, will serve as executive director.
“Cybersecurity threats are more sophisticated and persistent than ever,” said Rich Baich, inaugural chairperson of the C2 ISAC board. “With Valerie Moon serving as the executive director, the C2 ISAC is well positioned to expand trusted collaboration across the communications sector and help members address emerging risks.”
Structure and Governance
The group anticipates beginning activity in June.
