American Systems, the McLean, Va.-based information engineering company, announced recently it had been awarded a $172 million contract to continue its support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division’s Demonstration and Assessment Team (DAT).

The company said the contract would be for a one-year base period with up to four one-year renewal options. As part of the contract, American Systems would serve as the prime contract to a team of Operational Test and Cybersecurity Experts focused on helping the Navy and Marine Corps evaluate emerging technologies for warfighters as well as transition those technologies into use.

Officials said the effort will be focused on rapid, operationally-relevant demonstrations and assessments that give decision-makers timely, data-driven insights into how new capabilities perform in realistic environments.

“This milestone reflects the trust our Navy partners place in AMERICAN SYSTEMS and the exceptional work of our team,” John Steckel, president and CEO of American Systems, said. “By integrating advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence into our proven test and evaluation processes, we help our customers move promising capabilities from concept to the fleet faster and with greater confidence.”

Officials with American Systems said the follow-on contract will expand the company’s role in planning and executing field events to assess emerging technologies like unmanned systems, advanced sensors and mission systems by bringing together engineers, scientists and operational warfighters. The events would be designed to mirror real-world conditions, enabling more accurate assessment, officials said.

As part of the contract, American Systems said it will use its experience in cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and Live-Virtual-Constructive environments to integrate and evaluate new capabilities. The company said it will also leverage the use of Large Language Models, and Generative AI to provide leadership with clear, defensible information in compressed timelines.

“Our employee-owners are committed to delivering innovative, mission-focused solutions that enhance warfighter readiness and lethality,” Steckel said.
